In this video, dog training expert Ian Dunbar teaches how to encourage a dog to growl. It may seem an odd thing to teach but a dog growling and barking may give the wrong impression, the dog may just be excited. Even if the dog is uncomfortable in a situation and is growling, it can be very useful to be able to quieten the dog briefly while you remove them from the situation so as not to scare other people.

It can be a good idea, therefore, to put barking and growling on cue so that you can teach the dog when it has to stop. Ian tells us how this can be achieved. He reminds us to always consider our dog's emotions. If they are growling because they are uncertain about a situation, then more training is needed to help the dog learn to be comfortable in that situation in the future.
